It was in the summer of 2005 that an approach was initiated through the Tibet Foundation to invite H.H. The Sakya Trizin to England. He is to give the Lamdre teaching; sponsored by the Tibet Foundation, the Sakya Ling in Reading and the Sakya Thubten Ling.

After the first planning meeting of the three sponsors in Reading in December 2005, Bournemouth became the chosen venue and a formal invitation was hand delivered to H.H. by Phuntsog Wangyal of the Tibet Foundation in January 2006. The fifth planning meeting took place in Reading this month and a further two are scheduled.

This is the first occasion His Holiness has given the Lamdre teaching in the UK and it is a great honour and privilege that this should be hosted in Bournemouth. The teaching will start on 18 July 2007, lasting for four weeks and will be held at the Arts Institute in Bournemouth. Between fifty and one hundred students are expected to attend, drawn from as far afield as Europe, North and South America and New Zealand. The start date is very auspicious as it is the date the Buddha delivered his first teaching at the Deer Park at Benares.

For more information on the Lamdre teaching please speak to one of the Trustees.

We were very privileged to have Lama Thubten visit Bournemouth again. It was the first time he had seen our Centre in Charminster.

He gave the following empowerments in November and early January: 2 Refuges, Avalokiteshvara, Manjushri, White and Green Tara, Medicine Buddha and Vajrapani.

He came to several open evenings and gave talks about Buddhist philosophy and meditation practice. At the end of the first week of January, Lama-la returned to the Sakya centre in Denia, Southern Spain where he is resident Lama.
