Medicine Buddha Empowerment/Initiation with Khenpo Jamyang Lekshey

We are honoured to welcome Khenpo Jamyang Lekshey to the Bournemouth Buddhist Centre for his annual visit to the UK, where he will bestow the precious Medicine Buddha Empowerment (Jenang).

Khenpo Jamyang Lekshey is a senior monk and teacher from the Sakya Centre in Dehradun, India, the principal monastery of the Sakya tradition in India. Having dedicated many years to the study, practice and teaching of Tibetan Buddhism, he offers authentic Mahayana and Vajrayana teachings, empowerments and transmissions within an unbroken lineage. His annual visit provides a rare opportunity for practitioners throughout the UK to receive these precious teachings from an experienced Sakya master.

What is the Medicine Buddha Empowerment?

The Medicine Buddha Empowerment is a traditional Vajrayana Buddhist initiation that establishes a profound connection with Medicine Buddha (Bhaisajyaguru), the embodiment of enlightened healing, wisdom and compassion.

Within Vajrayana Buddhism, an empowerment is far more than a blessing. It is a sacred ceremony through which a qualified lineage holder introduces students to a particular enlightened deity and grants permission to engage in the associated meditation practice. Receiving an authentic empowerment from a qualified teacher is considered an essential foundation for Vajrayana practice.

Authentic Vajrayana Buddhist empowerments are only occasionally available in the UK, making this a rare opportunity to receive the Medicine Buddha Empowerment within the authentic Sakya lineage without travelling abroad.

Who Can Attend?

The Medicine Buddha Empowerment is intended for those who have taken refuge in the Three Jewels: the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.

If you have not previously taken refuge but wish to receive the empowerment, Khenpo Jamyang Lekshey will be bestowing the Refuge Vows during a special Refuge Ceremony on Saturday 25 July although a less formal refuge will take place during the initiation. This offers newcomers the opportunity to formally enter the Buddhist path.

If you are new to Vajrayana Buddhism and are unsure whether this event is suitable for you, please feel free to contact us.

About Medicine Buddha

Medicine Buddha, known in Sanskrit as Bhaisajyaguru, is revered throughout the Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions as the Buddha of Healing. His practice is traditionally undertaken to cultivate wisdom, compassion and the aspiration to relieve the suffering of all beings.

Receiving the Medicine Buddha Empowerment establishes an auspicious connection with this lineage and authorises those who wish to practise the traditional Medicine Buddha sadhana under the guidance of qualified teachers.
